16/17 October 2004 Just noticed in my local paper that Sanders Gardenworld at
Burnham -on-Sea, Somerset, is having an apple & cider special
event this weekend, 16/17 October. It is located just off M5 J22.
Details as follows:
- 300 varieties of apples on display-
-friut trees & bushes for sale-
-Advice on planting & pruning-
-ciders to taste & for sale-
-fun & games for the children-
- rural crafts & local produce-
-Bring your own apples and press them free of charge on their
press-
Personally, I have got more than enough of that to do here, but I
might drive over there if it is a nice day.
Rose.
Thursday September 30th 2004 until Saturday evening October 2nd. We are intent on doing our bit for cider at the North Herts Beer and
Cider Festival - to be held at the Plinston Hall in Letchworth,
starting on Thursday September 30th until Saturday evening October 2nd.
We are hoping to have most of the Reading prizewinning ciders
available, sadly Dennis Gwatkins has very little Blakeney red left not
bottled, but we will make up with one from Hecks instead. Food
available at every session; the venue is only a few hundred yards from
the Railway station and we will have Morris men on Saturday afternoon.
Loads of Beers and foreign bottled beers as well for those weak-hearts
amongst us who cannot stomach cider!
Hope to see you there
Maggie and John Woolley

Cheers,
Tania

Friday 27 - Monday 30th August 2004 The sixth Bewdley Beer Festival will be held at St George's Hall, off Load Street Car Park, Bewdley, ( near Kidderminster) over the August Bank Holiday weekend (Friday 27 - Monday 30th August). The Festival will feature at least 40 real ales plus nine real ciders and a perry. There will also be a range of wines, bottled beers and soft drinks

Each year we aim to provide new features at the Festival. This year we will have a BBQ in the courtyard. This will be available at lunchtimes and in the early evenings with a range of cold sandwiches available at other times.

Two years ago we believe we were the first beer festival in the country to have a live web cam and this year's coverage is expected to be increased. We hope to have at least three cameras with one providing a constant live feed. The cameras will be operating from the Monday before we open so you'll be able to monitor our progress as the festival is put together. Last year we had a bubble machine which could be remotely operated via the web site.

A separate family room will be available at all times. Families are most welcome.

Anyone travelling to Bewdley by train, arriving on the Severn Valley Railway, can get in to the Beer Festival for half price when they produce their train ticket.

There will be a live band on the Friday evening from abot 9 pm. The Jamesons play semi acoustic Irish music.

Opening times will be

Friday 27th 12 noon - 11 pm
Saturday 28th 11am - 11pm
Sunday 29th 12 noon - 10.30pm
Monday 30th 12 noon - 5pm

The latest news and more information including pictures from previous years and during the Festival the web cams are available at http://bewdleybeerfestival.co.uk/

8-10th July 2004 The first Welsh Cider and Perry Festival to be held at the Chapter
Arts Centre, Market Rd, Canton, Cardiff is coming soon. The dates:

Thursday July 8th, 5pm - 11pm.
Friday July 9th, 1pm-12.30am.
Saturday July 10th, 1pm-11pm.

There'll be a selection of about 25 Welsh ciders and perries, with
perhaps 6 or so on sale at any one time (that's Chapter's way of doing
things). I'll let you know what the final list is as soon as it's
finalised.

One added attraction is that CAMRA will be presenting the 2004 UK Cider and Perry Champions (Seidr Gwynt-y-Ddraig, Denis Gwatkin) with their awards at 2pm on the Saturday. It is planned that the two winning brews will be on sale at that time.

Cheers,

Dave Matthews

Sun 11th 12:00 - 15:00
As usual, it's in the Assembly Rooms in Derby, in the Market Place; 10mins from the Train Station, 5 mins from the Bus Station.
Free at all times to CAMRA members who've remembered to take their card... from *Free* through £1 to a max of £5 admission (Sat night) if you don't have a CAMRA card, depending on when you go.

This is not a peaceful festival as there are no 'quiet' sessions, but the place is big enough and has enough rooms so that you can usually find somewhere peaceful to sit and enjoy.

We will be there either Weds or Thurs evening - most probably Weds. As Rich's is on, We'll probably wear our Rich's polo shirts in support...

BOOK LAUNCH

Anyone in the Herefordshire area on Wednesday evening may like to come along to the launch of my book - yes, it has been printed at last - it took almost as long as the latest Harry Potter to get into print.....(but isn't quite as long page wise..)

Ray Blockley

Post mortem:

Had a great time at the Derby Beer Festival last night. Between us we managed to sample all the ciders and perrys on offer - along with many other cider/perry drinking punters. A delight to see! Many were obviously new to the real stuff so it was fun listening to the bar staff explaining what perry is and how it's made. We personally found Hecks' Bramley & Honey cider was too sweet for our tastes and that La Paquine's Normandy Cider was also v. sweet, although it was labelled 'Medium'. Haye Farm's Cornish Scrumpy was excellent to our taste, as was Hartland's perry. Tim Chichester's Suicider was different but I enjoyed it. Thumbs up to all.

On a different note, it was great to be able to listen to the Grand Central Chorus 'barbershop' choir and enjoy the cider. Proper skill and craft in the use of the human voice and tight harmony. Superb stuff. All respect to Derby for getting the Grand Central Chorus in. They play every year and are a treat not to be missed.

Going to a Festival?

Most beer festivals have a good selection of real ciders and perrys on offer, and these are organised throught the year around Britain. Keep an eye on the Beer Festivals calendar and why not tell the ukcider mailing list if you are intending to turn up at one, and maybe some of us can have a bit of a meet-up by the cider bar.

You can help to identify yourself and promote ukcider at the same time by printing off a few leaflets and placing them at the cider bar. For this purpose I've included a link here which will bring up a printable page of 2 @ sight A5 leaflets on a single A4 landscape page which can be printed directly from your browser . ( I used Netscape 4.6 ). Then cut the pages in half.
