About

Cider production is limited to 1,500 gallons per year, so that duty is not payable, and the result is a bottled fermented cider, which is a fresh, zesty, slightly citrus brew having good acid content without being tart. Indeed, some of the production is given a secondary fermentation in bottles to make a sparkling version. Each bottle may contain the juice from up to 40 different cider apple varieties, all picked in old orchards within a four-mile radius of the cidery.

Bollhayes Cider were the Supreme Champions at the Devon County Show Cider Competition in 2001 and 2002 and at the Bath and West Show in 2003.

It is made by Alex Hill, the managing director of Vigo Ltd, who are the suppliers of equipment, consumables and services for vineyards and wine makers, cider and fruit juice makers.

Bollhayes is sold from the farm gate (ring first - number below) and is also available at various local pubs, see Cider Pub Guide to Devon. This place is not easy to find. It is about two miles east of the village of Hemyock, on the south side of the River Culm, and Hemyock is itself about five miles south of Wellington, so, when you know where it is, it is quite quick and easy to reach from the M5.
