- Penrhyn Arms, Pendre Road, Penrhynside, LL30 3BY (01492 541569: pub website)
Abercolwyn Branch of Camra's Pub of the year 2005 and Cider Pub of the Year 2006... and a clear contender for the best cider pub in the whole of Wales.
At least one guest cider/perry always available, but in August 2006, they had (simultaneously) 1 x Ralphs, 1 x Westons, 1 x Sams, an unidentified Stoke Red and an unidentified perry all on draught, plus a handful of bottles. Cheese evening on Thursday - bring your own cheese and try everyone else's.
A few miles out of Llandudno - print a map before you go! (Roughly: follow the B5115 coast road east, then double back on yourself at the roundabout in Penrhyn Bay, and take the turning by the 'Welcome to Llandudno' arch. Turn immediately left again into Pendre Road and it's along there.) Parking can be difficult so get there under your own steam if possible.

Flintshire
Halkyn
* Blue Bell Inn - Regional Cider Pub of the Year (N. Wales, Cheshire & Merseyside), Rhosesmor Road, Halkyn, Flintshire, Wales CH8 8DL. Tel: 07010 700072. Pub website. All are welcome to come to our Cheese, Cider, Ale & Wine Night on Saturday, 12th April
Built in the mid 1700s at the crossroads of two old coaching routes, the Blue Bell Inn is purportedly named after a local privateer’s boat the Blue Bell. Legend has it that he was later caught and hanged for his piracy and is thought to be buried a few hundred yards away in the cemetery next to Halkyn Castle.
We are an independent, family run and award winning freehouse enjoyed by walkers, riders, cyclists, folk and jazz musicians and locals alike. At 850 feet we are near the top of Halkyn Mountain with spectacular 60 mile views over the Dee & Mersey rivers to the distant Cumbrian mountains & Pennine hills. Real fires in winter add to the warm welcome.
We’ve had hundreds of different cask ales to date and our own locally brewed and Welsh session Blue Bell Bitter is always on along with other regularly changing real ales, ciders and perrys including our own Rosie's Blue Bell Cider.
Our food is a mixture of locally sourced, home-made and traditional meals ranging from lighter bites to those that challenge the hungry.
We're only 20 minutes from Chester and a minute from the A55, visit our web site and we'll draw a map from you to us that will help you find us, even if it's by public transport!
Our Apple Pressing Day went well in October 2006 and like our own local cask ale Blue Bell Bitter we have now launched our own cider during the quarterly (April) Cheese, Cider & Ale night. Our cider is called Rosie's Blue Bell Cider and Steve Hughes (CAMRA Bottled Cider Champ 2006) did all the work with his vintage tractor, scratter and press outside the Blue Bell Inn in October 2006 & 2007. Lots of folks from Halkyn contributed apples and Steve started us off with Bulmers Norman, Yarlington Mill, Dabinett and Michelin. We had (from Halkyn) Bramley, Tom Putt, we're pretty sure there were Braeburns, Royal Gala and some entertaining crab apples. Owing to the weather last year and the effect on the apples (something like big apples from all the rain and not enough sugars due to lack of sun), we expect that the 2007 brew will be ready sometime in June/July ready for the summer Cheese, Cider, Ale & Wine Night.
