Marcher Apple Network
From Ukcider
Marcher Apple Network (or MAN for short) is a society whose aim to help resuscitate interest in native apple and pear varieties.
About
It was founded in December 1993 when a group of eight apple and pear enthusiasts first met with the idea of forming a society for reviving old varieties of apples and pears. Since then membership has grown to around 300 members, obtaining charitable status in December 2002.
Marcher Apple Network is now involved in many different activities from keeping their own orchards, which preserve old varieties, through attendance at many shows during the autumn where the identification service proves very popular.
In Autumn 2009, MAN published Welsh Marches Pomona, describing 31 local varieties of apples which have not been previously included in the pomological literature.
