"in 1989 was granted by HM Customs the first full cider distilling licence in recorded history"

Not so sure thats strictly true Charles Clive-Ponsonby-Fane got a licence to make and sell Cider Brandy at Brympton d'Evercy (a stately home just west of Yeovil) a couple of years earlier as part of an attempt to bring in tourists. It failed when he was forced to sell the house after failing to make it pay, but I think he can be regarded as the "first" in modern times JonS 21:55, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
