  • I'm not quite sure that the listing for Ralph's Cider, Old Badland Farm, New Radnor, Presteigne, Powys, LD8 2TG should be on thecider pubs list, it isn't a pub. It is listed on the regional producers list which is more appropriate, unless you know better? There are also some pubs on the pubs list which DO NOT sell REAL cider, shouldn't they be delisted??? The Pub guide is for all outlets not just pubs. If somebody felt it worth adding a listing at some point, then they felt there was a valid reason at the time, but this can always be clarified with new comment. It's generally better to add information than to take away, but pubs which have changed hands or closed and have no prospect of resuming real cider should be marked as delisted. --WikiGnome 09:06, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

  • So, it turns out that the Pub Guide to Mid Wales, isn't just a pub guide!? Maybe it should be outlet guide? Not helpful if your expecting to find pubs.CiderMike 10:59, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Sanctimonious comments

I've removed a load of preachy "not real, gas-filled, industrial, chemical-laden" comments from this page. It makes us look like stuck-up, sanctimonious bores. This is, of course, a wiki and pub guide about real cider; that's the principal criterion for inclusion. Nonetheless, background information about pubs is always useful and it's perfectly valid to observe whether a real cider-selling pub also serves Stowford Press (fizzy cider made from real cider apples) or Strongbow (may have seen an apple some time in the last 300 years, allegedly). Likewise, for somewhere such as Llanthony which is a major walker's destination but pretty much 20 miles from anywhere, it's perfectly valid to put a 'half entry' noting that, if you want a nice pint, at least the Half Moon does Addlestones rather than bottled Kopparberg or somesuch.

I'd also ask whoever added these comments to leave the page alone if (as I strongly suspect) they've never tried to find a decent pint of cider in rural Mid-Wales. Anyone can be a tedious wikifiddler (Wikipedia is full of them), but it takes effort to actually go out and research stuff. Unless you're prepared to put in the hours doing the research, don't piss all over the work of those who do. --Richard Fairhurst 20:07, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Please try and sort this out through civil discussion here if at all possible, because reverts will lead eventually to the page being frozen for a short period, which means we may miss some new information. I reversed the last revert because it re-introduced previously corrrected spelling errors so that's no use to anyone really --WikiGnome 15:25, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

  • This makes me quite mad to be honest. Why is someone elses opinion right over anyone elses? Do teo wrongs make a right in yours eyes. The fact is that this isn't a walkers website who might fancy a pint of any old crap when they've found a pub, it a wiki dedicated to real cider, of which stowford, gold, strongbow, etc isn't. I have found this website incredibly useful on my journeys around the UK looking for cider pubs, farms, producers etc.... but, I have also found it misleading with inaccurate, unworthy information leading me astray. EVERY pub in the UK sells a form of cider, maybe they should all be on here??? No, I thought not, we should all stick to what is said in the definition which is "Real cider is the product of fermenting fresh apple juice. The amount of apple juice which went into the final product must be between 85 and 100% and should be clearly stated on the container it is sold in or dispensed from. No artificial sweetners, flavourings or colourings are permitted" and anything that is not related to that should be excluded/delisted/ignored/not published/deleted. If a particular county doesn't have any real cider then so be it, there lots of other pub guides out there. Perhaps someone seeing how little there is would be the reason that somebody made an effort to actually get some!? I'll be continuing on my cider journey of the uk, visiting places, writing things, occasionally attempting to make something, but I will not be told to leave a wiki page alone by someone who thinks there opinion is bigger and better then anyone elses. If my comments are Sanctimonious, heaven forbid what the above is?!

Lots of love, stuck-up, sanctimonious bore... but most of all a REAL cider lover CiderMike 16:00, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Meh. Enjoy yourself... life's too short. But please don't follow me around and send messages through other sites, it's a bit creepy to be honest. :) --Richard Fairhurst 20:33, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
