Taunton Cider Plc was an real cider producer, and later known as an industrial cider producer and distributor based in Taunton, Somerset.

About

Taunton Cider Company was set up in April 1921 and became one of the leading cider companies in the United Kingdom, manufacturing and distributing around 30 million gallons of cider each year.

In the late 1950s the company acquired the Quantock Vale and Ashford Vale cider companies as well as Bruttons and Horrells. It is about this time that the the company began to turn to pasteurising cider in kegs allowing the products to travel and to keep longer.

The company was bought by drinks company Matthew Clark £256 millon in 1995, and is now part of the Gaymers Cider Company.

Products

Brands over the years included Dry Blackthorn, Diamond White, Red Rock famous for the line "It's not red and there's no rocks in it!", Autumn Gold (later known as Blackthorn Sweet), Special Vat, Taunton Cool and the late lamented real draught Taunton Original. It also marketed and distributed Miller Genuine Draft lager in the United Kingdom in a joint agreement with Miller Brewing Company.
