Hello! --Frankie Roberto 22:22, 31 Jan 2005 (GMT)

Andy: Hello Frankie. The wiki is just starting to be born. Now I'm starting to wonder what to do with the second mySQL database.

Use it as a personal organisation tool (password protected) - that's what I've done. I use it for putting lecture notes onto, keeping a timetable, etc. --Frankie Roberto 15:08, 8 Feb 2005 (GMT)

  • well done Andy!

this looks to be an excellent addition to the uk-cider mailing list, and should soon be a veritable mine of information. techie question: is this all php running under apache on linux? how much is it thrashing your machine with just a couple of people editing and submitting entries?

Andy: Thanks Nic, and for blogging it too:-)

Mediawiki was developed for wikipedia and uses a mySQL database run by php scripts, in this case with apache on a linux server which isn't mine, it's on a web hosting service. So the software is very scalable, but this cider thing is never going to get impossibly busy is it?

Nic: fair point! I was thinking more along the lines of it being stuck on a machine at home connected over adsl. I have an old linux box running apache/php and mysql but haven't done anything with it like that and was wondering if how much load it might create. Anyway, nice job and keep up the good work.

--Tania Wooo! I managed to log in and make my first Wiki entry! Just have to scurry off home and find all my cider notes to input ....

Namespaces

Hey, why did you move a few pages across namespaces (Talk:Main page/Archive to Main page/Archive and ukcider:Main page to Possible test version of main page)? The reason for using those namespaces (Talk: and ukcider:) is to show that the content isn't part of the main site content (which is about cider), but is 'meta' in the same way. Practical considerations is that Main Page/Archive and Test version of possible main page will now appear in Special:Allpages and Special:Randompage - hardly user friendly... --Frankie Roberto 13:05, 11 Jul 2005 (BST)

pub guide - spammed.

andy, in case you didn't see. some really annoying git has removed the entire pub guide and replaced it with an enormous amount of spam comments. nice. I replaced it with an older unspammed version - hope thats ok. you might need to lock it down to stop comment spam (annoying I know). cheers
