White Lightning
From Ukcider
White Lightning was a brand of industrial cider brewed, most recently by Scottish & Newcastle from the early 1990s until 2009.
About
White Lightening was originally produced by Inch's, but H.P Bulmers bought the company, specifically for the brand in 1996, and continued making it under their own name.
It was known for its 8.5% alcohol strength and low price. White Lightning was popular with those wishing for alcoholic intoxication at a minimum price, mostly tramps on park benches!
However, after attempts to improve the image of white cider, including no longer making it available in three litre bottles and a reduction of abv to 5.5%, the brand was withdrawn from the market on March 31st 2009.
Heineken UK, who became owners of S&N, and the Bulmers name in 2008, still has Strongbow, Bulmers and Jacques in its cider portfolio.
